About This Tool
This tool stamps page numbers onto every page of a PDF — plain numbers, "Page N", or "N of Total" — in your choice of corner. With the optional prefix and zero-padding, it also produces Bates numbering (e.g. ABC-000123), the sequential identification format used in legal discovery, court bundles, and audit documentation. A live example updates as you type, and processing stays entirely in your browser.
Why Merged Bundles Need Numbers
When several documents are merged into one filing, the original page numbers printed on each document no longer match the combined file's sequence. Continuous numbering across the whole bundle is what lets a covering letter say "see page 47" unambiguously — and many tribunals and departments require it. Bates Numbering
Set a prefix (matter code, party initials) and zero padding, and start each production batch where the previous one ended by changing "Start numbering at". Because numbers are drawn into the page content, they survive printing and re-copying. Note that this tool stamps new numbers; it does not detect or remove numbering already printed on the pages — position the new numbers in a corner the originals leave empty.
